Tonsilloliths: Annoyance – Or Major Problem?

Tonsilloliths or tonsil stones are calcifications that form in the crypts of the palatal tonsils. They are described as having a strong stench: halitosis concentrated into a small solid object.

Wedged between the outside of wisdom teeth and the temporomandibular joint area of the fleshed jaw, protruding tonsil stones have the feel of a foreign object. They often show up in routine radiological studies, and are hard to diagnose in the absence of clear manifestations.

The tonsils are areas of lymphoid tissue on either side of the throat. They act as part of the immune system to help protect against infection, as with other organs of the lymphatic system.

In particular, they are believed to be involved in helping fight off pharyngeal and upper respiratory tract infections. Tonsils tend to reach their largest size close to the teenage years, and they slowly undergo atrophy afterward.

The debris from which they are formed consists of food particles, dead cells from the lining of your mouth, mucous from post nasal drip, and bacteria of various sorts, especially anaerobic bacteria from the back of the tongue.

Tonsilloliths can cause a persistent sore throat as well as frequent bouts of tonsillitis. Many people remove them by poking at them and scraping them out with a fingernail.

Essential to their formation are the sulfur-producing bacteria under the surface of your tongue, and they are the cause of the bad breath. Getting rid of tonsil stones without surgery luckily is not that hard.

There are some top quality products you can use that will efficiently remove the stones without needless surgery.

The cause of tonsilloliths is not really known but the condition seems to be relatively harmless. The only negative impacts are the foreign object sensation and the extremely bad breath.

A course of therapy involving oxygenating oral care products, like toothpastes and mouthwashes, together with a tongue scraper, which effectively counteracts the anaerobic bad-breath-causing bacteria from the very back of the tongue, will generate best results – stopping tonsil stones from ever forming again.

This complete tonsil stones removal kit is a combination of Nasal Sinus spray and drops, Active Oxygen tablets, breath spray and mints. Occasional use of an oxygenating spray will help immediately to neutralize the anaerobic sulfur-producing bacteria on contact.

Here’s how the therapy works:

  1. Create the ActivOxygen solution by using 1-2 of the tablets and placing them in the 8 oz. bottle that comes with it and adding plain tap water.
  2. Swallow 1-2 capfuls during the day.
  3. Place a few of the Nasal-Sinus drops in your nostrils.

Give it a try and see if it doesn’t help alleviate the problem. As annoying as these things can be, it’s really a relief when those tonsilloliths are finally gone!
